Enjoy Anna's new blog entry. She confirms it's her twitter and that they have another baby with Mike too! cute! Unfortunately her book is going to be released at 1st half of 2014...but she's writing another one and that's great news!

Hello!  Remember me? It’s no secret that I am awful at blogging--just look at my track record.  So I’m trying my hand at Twitter, which has resulted in a few followers wondering “is this the real Anna Shinoda?” and wondering when my book will be able to purchase.To answer the first question, yes, it’s me on Twitter: @AnnaShinodaAs far as my book goes...I just sent in another round of edits on Learning Not to Drown to my fantastic editor over at Atheneum.  Yes, this has been a much more lengthy process than I could have ever imagined.  I am incredibly lucky to write for the love of writing, without the need of a paycheck rushing things along.  I can choose to spend my days with my lovely children--who will only be this young for a precious few years--and work on my book during nap times and after I put them down to bed.  That’s not a lot of hours to work, considering some of that time is eaten by cooking, cleaning, laundry, mending little outfits (as well as some big ones), tending my veggie garden, reading, and anything else I need to do without my little monkeys following close behind.  My editor is an incredibly busy woman as well, and when my latest draft arrives in her office, is has to wait its turn before she can have a chance to review it and get back to me with her thoughts.
So my book comes out later than we planned.
While my editor has each draft, I continue to have life experiences that I can bring to my edits, making my novel richer, my characters more dynamic.  As far as a release date, it continues to change, but I think it’s safe to say that we’ll actually see it in stores between January and June of 2014.
For now, I am plodding along on a first draft of my next novel and enjoying a lot of hugs, kisses, giggles and firsts.

Anna married musician Mike Shinoda in 2003, and she has no shortage of kids to be inspired by, thanks to her children...

Anna's book "Learning not to drown"

Ok, so i have done a little research... it seems like the date of publish Anna's 1st novel ('learning not to drown') has been changes quiet a few times...
The very 1st plan (back from Anna's journal 2008: "... available to purchase in stores, possibly in Spring 2011...") was to publish it in 2011... Than it was April 2011...and now...
Now i checked and it seems like that it's more likely for a book to be publish in March 2012. Japanese amazon claims even exact day which is 20th of March 2011. All the sites i checked says that the book will have 256 pages.
I also found that information about Anna: She graduated with a degree in Communication Studies from Long Beach State University and continued to develop her writing at UCLA Extension.

It would be really nice to see what Anna or her publishing house has to say about it but it seems like we need to wait longer for any piece of information..
Anyway i hope U enjoyed the news!

Here are only a few of my current favorites:
David Almond, especially Skelling and Kit's Wilderness. I love the tone most about his work. How even the most simple and innocent description is done in a way to make you feel that something isn't quite right, but you can't put your finger on it.
Barbara Kingsolver's The Poisonwood Bible for the way she is able to seamlessly tell the story in five distinct character voices, give five very different points of view.
Jerry Spinelli and Gary Soto for their ability to write incredibly powerful stories in beautiful simplicity.
Neil Gaiman for his bizarre creepy imagination.
As far as classic writers go, I was a huge fan of Shakespeare and read almost all of his works in high school (although I haven't picked him up recently).
A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens and The Hunchback of Notre-Dame by Victor Hugo were two of my all time favorites for great endings.
And Mary Shelley who created a monster that I felt fear and anger and hatred and... compassion for in her novel Frankenstein

Plant a Tree with Music For Relief!

I just spent another awesome Saturday morning planting trees with TreePeople: an environmental nonprofit organization here in Los Angeles. I love gardening and occasionally volunteering with TreePeople gives me a great opportunity to get my hands dirty while adding some much needed trees all over Los Angeles County. This morning we planted 35 trees in a park in Sun Valley. The trees were planted near an field area that is used for sports. Although small now (around 6 feet tall, with skinny trunks and boney sticks as branches) eventually they will be towering with thick, leafy canopies! I love to imagine how children and adults will enjoy the shade and beauty that these trees will bring to their park.

Next Saturday, October 17th, from 9am- 1pm, Music for Relief will be teaming up with TreePeople to reforest an area of Sylmar that was devastated by the 2008 wildfires. When I met her I was with my wife and we met at this party Jay was throwing. And we went into this little VIP area and I knew everybody but a couple of people and he introduced us. My wife went to shake Jay's hand but basically gave him a quarter of a handshake like almost just grabbed it and let go if even grabbing it and went straight to Beyonce and was like "Nice to meet you, I love your music, I am such a huge fan!" and Jay actually called her on it after that saying "What am I chopped liver? You can't say hello?" She was very excited to meet Beyonce.

Raised in a town so small it lacked a stop light, there was little for Anna Shinoda to do except climb trees, go on hikes and read books. Reading books led to writing books, and by the fourth grade, Anna had her first book bound through the Young Authors program. In middle school and high school, she concentrated her writing skills on reporting the news to her schoolmates as the editor for her high school paper. Upon graduation, she was awarded several scholarships on the merit of her writing and pursued a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication Studies at Long Beach State. Anna worked in music Public Relations for several years after college and eventually discovered a love of writing for children.

Determined to continually develop her writing skills, Anna has taken many classes through UCLA Extension and as a member of SCBWI has attended several Conferences.

Completed manuscripts for editorial consideration include two nominations for the Sue Alexander Most Promising New Work Award: a chapter book nominated in 2004, and a young adult novel nominated in 2006.

Her first young adult novel, published by Atheneum Books for Young Readers, is scheduled for release in Spring 2011.

Anna writes to promote healing in children, whether it is taming a fear of the dark, confronting the unknown, discovering how to make new friends, or facing a difficult truth.
