My family is complex and each person has their own story. Out of respect for them, I wrote this as a work of fiction. I did a ton of research – interviewed people with incarcerated family members, watched documentaries, read articles, visited message boards – all resulting in a fictional novel that is a blend of all of that with my experiences and my imagination.Thanks for letting me know, Katie!
