Rockers roll out for Rancho Vista teachers, students

Chester visited Rancho Vista Elementary school on March 15th, this year. Chester and Carpenter, guitarist for the Deftones and godfather of Chester's son Draven, helped to raise funds for the school during its annual spring carnival.

The school’s annual spring carnival on Sunday, March 15 gave the community a reason to come out that afternoon as the musicians signed posters, guitars, T-shirts and took photos for about two hours, charging a nominal fee that will go to save teachers and maintain programs at the school.

“We just happened to have all of them home — Pennywise just got off tour, so we’re very lucky to have Fletcher [Dragge] here today. Chester [Bennington] is in the middle of recording a new album, so is Stephen [Carpenter], so we are very blessed that they could take one of their only days off to be away from their loved ones and to come and do this for their loved ones and family, and of course, the community and children,” said Samantha Bennington.

Samantha and Chester have a son together, Draven, who is a first-grader at Rancho Vista, and Carpenter, guitarist for the Deftones, is Draven’s godfather.

“This is good education. The teachers here are phenomenal and our principal [Debra Loob] is amazing,” Samantha said. “We can have him in a private school and why when this community is so in touch with their children … This whole community is tight.

“We’re taking some big hits here and I’m glad everyone is coming together,” she added.

Since Samantha grew up with members of Pennywise, including Dragge, it was an easy favor for him to come out to the carnival.
