How did you sell your book to Dutton?
I entered my bad little chicken in the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators New York Showcase. That show is an amazing opportunity for illustrators because it puts your work in front of art directors and editors. My chicken was selected for the auction, and was purchased by Anna Shinoda for her husband. Anna is a wonderful writer who just happens to be married to the multi-talented musician and visual artist Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park and Fort Minor. It’s pretty cool when your life reads like a fairy tale. I met my editor at the auction.
